Theme: Learning to slow down and let healing set.
There’s a quiet magic in watching a turtle move. No rush, no frantic flailing, no urgency to keep up with anything outside of itself. The turtle doesn’t measure progress by speed—it measures it by direction, presence, and purpose. And in this gentle creature, we find a reminder we often forget: slow isn’t stuck. Healing works the same way. It doesn’t always come with fireworks or big triumphs; sometimes it comes in whispers—in the mornings you get out of bed when you didn’t think you could, in the boundaries you set that once terrified you, in the softness with which you start treating yourself. These moments are small, but they’re sacred. They’re the quiet work happening beneath the surface, long before anyone else can see the transformation forming. Just as a beautifully layered lasagna must rest before it’s served—allowing the flavors to settle, meld, and become whole--your healing also needs time to integrate. You don’t owe anyone polished joy or a perfectly put-together exterior. Your only responsibility is to honor your pace, not their expectations. Holiday Reflection The holiday season can place unspoken pressure on us to “be okay”—to show up cheerful, presentable, and emotionally available even when our inner world feels tender. But you are allowed to take the turtle’s approach. When the world becomes loud, go into your shell without shame. Retreating isn’t regression—it’s wisdom. It’s protecting what’s still mending. Rest becomes an act of defiance against the pull to perform wellness you don’t yet feel. The turtle teaches us that survival often comes from knowing when to move and when to pause. And sometimes the bravest thing you can do during the holidays is to step back, breathe deeply, and let quietness be your companion. Lasagna Layer: Patience Think of your healing as a dish being prepared lovingly and intentionally. Every layer—grief, acceptance, clarity, hope—has its purpose. But the most overlooked ingredient is patience. Patience allows everything within you to settle, synchronize, and make sense. With patience, the heart remembers how to feel again. With patience, the mind finds clarity. With patience, the body exhales what it has been holding. Patience is not passive—it is an active trust that your becoming is happening at its own perfect tempo. Scripture “Let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.” — James 1:4 This verse reminds us that patience isn’t merely waiting; it is the forming, shaping, and strengthening that happens while we wait. It is God’s quiet craftsmanship within us. Nothing rushed, nothing forced—just the slow, holy work of becoming whole. A Closing Word As you move through this season, may you embrace the turtle’s wisdom. May you trust in slow miracles. May you give yourself permission to rest, retreat, and rise again when you’re ready. Your healing is unfolding—one intentional, sacred layer at a time. Sam The Lasagna Lady®
