A Question Between the Layers: Finding Stillness in the Hustle

I recently had the privilege of attending an event where I received a complimentary ticket, and I’m so grateful for the opportunity. The panelist conversation and the dialogue with the moderator were incredibly informative. What stood out the most was the joy and passion each panelist shared, despite their different industries. It was inspiring to see how their experiences connected in such a meaningful way.

One thing that truly resonated with me during the event was a question I posed to the panel: "What is your favorite part of the day?" Though the question was unrelated to their professions, their answers filled the room with a heartfelt energy. Each response was unique, but one answer made me smile, and I find myself still smiling about it.

This question made me reflect on how we all juggle the hustle and bustle of life—balancing career and home, managing the demands of working from home, and staying productive. But sometimes, the most important task is simply pausing and reflecting on what brings us joy during it all.

As I continue layering my day like a "lasagna," with tasks both big and small—work to-do lists, honey-do lists, balancing priorities—I've come to realize that taking time to acknowledge your favorite part of the day can be a liberating experience. It’s a pause that inspires, rests, and rejuvenates, allowing us to accomplish even more than if we tried to push through the hustle without a moment to breathe.

Looking through what I call the Lasagna Lens—whether you're building multiple layers in life or just a few—taking the time to appreciate your favorite part of the day is the balance that makes everything come together.

So here’s to embracing those moments of pause and reflection, because they just might be the missing ingredient that helps us balance it all.

I hope this captures the essence of your experience and the thoughtful way you've processed it. Would you like to adjust or add anything to it?

The Lasagna Lens: Finding Balance in the Layers
Life is often a delicate balancing act—between career, home, responsibilities, and everything in between. Recently, I attended an event where I had the chance to sit in on an enlightening panel discussion. The conversation between the panelists and the moderator was informative, thought-provoking, and full of energy. What truly struck me, however, was the undeniable connection that existed between them, despite their different industries. They all shared a common thread: passion.

As I sat listening to their insights, I couldn’t help but think about how these panelists’ passions mirrored a concept I often reflect on the layers of life. Much like building a lasagna—each layer contributing to the whole—our daily lives are built on a series of actions, moments, and decisions. It’s easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of it all, but sometimes, it’s the simplest things that can create the most profound moments of reflection.

During the Q&A portion of the event, I raised my hand to ask a question. While there were several questions related to their professions, I had something different on my mind. I asked, "What is your favorite part of the day?"

The answers that followed filled the room with a warmth I didn’t expect. Each panelist had a different response, but all of them were rooted in the idea of savoring moments of peace, joy, or connection amidst the chaos. One answer still brings a smile to my face every time I think about it.
It made me reflect on how we all juggle so many responsibilities, constantly moving from one task to the next. Whether it’s a to-do list at work, a “honey-do” list at home, or the never-ending balancing act of working from home, it can feel overwhelming at times. But this simple question--What is your favorite part of the day? --reminded me of something important: the need for pause.

The Power of Pause
We often think that the key to achieving everything we want in life is to push forward without stopping. We try to balance it all—career, family, health, relationships—and feel the weight of it on our shoulders. But what if the key to getting more done isn’t in the hustle, but in the pause?

Taking a moment to reflect on your favorite part of the day can be incredibly freeing. It’s not about slowing down or avoiding work; it’s about savoring those moments that make the rest of the day worth it. Whether it’s your morning coffee, a quiet walk, time spent with loved ones, or even just a moment of peace during a hectic day—these moments are more than just breaks. They are fuel for the soul, giving you the energy to tackle what’s next.

As I continue to layer my day like a lasagna—work, personal tasks, family time, everything that life throws at me—I’ve realized that these pauses are the key to keeping everything in balance. They are the moments that allow us to step back, breathe, and refocus. In a world that encourages non-stop hustle, sometimes the most productive thing you can do is take a breath and appreciate the simple joys that fill your day

Looking Through the Lasagna Lens
So, how does this all tie back to lasagna? Let’s just say, I’ve found a new way to view life’s many layers: through what I like to call the Lasagna Lens. Just as a lasagna is made up of several distinct layers that come together to create something amazing, our days are made up of many smaller moments that, when appreciated, create a fuller, more meaningful life. The key is balance.

Embracing your favorite part of the day isn’t about escaping the hustle. It’s about creating a moment of pause that liberates your mind, inspires your spirit, and allows you to be more present in the moments that matter. Whether you’re layering your lasagna with many pieces or just a few, remembering to savor those favorite moments is the balance your life—and your lasagna—needs.

I hope this post inspires you to find your favorite part of the day and to embrace the pause that helps you balance it all. Because when you take the time to reflect, you’ll realize that those small, quiet moments are often the ones that carry the most power.
