Melted, Not Broken: How Lasagna Helps You Survive Heartbreak

Heartbreak is a strange kind of hunger. It doesn't ask for food exactly—it asks for warmth, for comfort, for something to hold you together when everything feels like it’s falling apart. And somehow, in that messy in-between place of sadness and survival, lasagna shows up.
Lasagna doesn’t judge. Lasagna doesn’t ask you to talk about what happened. Lasagna just is—layered, warm, and patiently waiting.

The Layers of Healing Lasagna is like the heart itself—layered and sometimes a little messy, but full of depth. You start with a foundation, usually something basic and broken like a torn-open box of dry noodles. Then you start layering in the good stuff: sauce (a little sweet, a little spicy), cheese (because love is melty and comforting), and maybe some meat or vegetables (the substance you didn’t know you needed).

Like healing, it’s not done all at once. You build it slowly, one layer at a time.
And when it bakes? That’s the part no one talks about—the waiting. The part where the heat does its work and you just sit with your feelings and let things soften.

When you're the one in pieces you might be the one broken into pieces—quiet, curled up on your couch, watching your phone like it owes you answers. But lasagna reminds you that being in pieces is okay. It’s not less than; it’s just in progress. All great things are made from parts.
You scoop it out, maybe it falls apart a little on the plate. Still delicious. Still warm. Still worth it.

A Love that always shows up Lasagna is the friend who doesn’t give advice but brings a fork. The one who lets you cry, or binge-watch something terrible, or sit in silence. It's the type of love that doesn't demand anything in return.

Sometimes healing isn’t about fixing what broke. Sometimes it’s about feeding the part of you that still works. The part that says, “I’m still here,” even through the tears.

So, Make the Lasagna Even if it's from a frozen box.
Even if you burn the edges.
Even if you eat it alone.
Make the lasagna.

Like my first motivational book titled Life Through Lasagna Eyes:  The Recipes for life, each layer built somewhere between the sauce and the cheese, the warmth and the weight, you remember you are still capable of feeling full again.  Amazon.com: Life Through Lasagna Eyes: The Recipes For Life: 9780692599037

And maybe, just maybe, that’s how the healing begins.
